Johnny was sitting on the couch rocking and thinking. He was furious. 'I am NOT, nor will I ever be, somebody's or anybody's BABY!' Was what he was thinking. How he got there is the story.
Johnny and Roy were enjoying the late fall weather. They were cuddled on the lounged chair on the deck of the house that Johnny was almost finished rebuilding after two years of hard work.
"I love you, Baby." Roy whispered in Johnny's ear. He felt Johnny stiffen.
"Don't." Johnny spoke softly as he pushed himself off the chair. "Just...don't." He repeated as he headed into the house and the couch.
Roy stood and followed. "Don't what, Johnny?" Roy grabbed the handle on the sliding glass door intending to open it, he found it locked. 'What the fuck?!'
He looked in and saw Johnny rocking on the couch. 'Shit!' He cursed himself. Their friendship had grown into a loving relationship, but Roy knew that Johnny was very insecure and unsure of himself, so he tried hard not to upset his new lover. He failed at times though, and this was one of those times.
Johnny heard the soft sound of approaching feet. He didn't look up when the soft voice spoke.
"What's the matter, Uncle Johnny?" Jennifer DeSoto placed a small hand on Johnny's knee.
Johnny looked at the eight year old. He smiled a sad smile and sighed. "Nothing, Sweetheart."
"But why are you so sad? Did Daddy say something mean to you?" Jenny loved her father with all her heart, but heaven help him if he made her Uncle Johnny sad or cry.
"Don't worry, Jen. Everything will be okay. Why don't you go outside and play now." Johnny petted the child's long blonde hair. "Go on." He then pushed her towards the kitchen.
Jenny left the room looking back at Johnny as she went. Roy was in the kitchen when Jenny walked in. "What's the matter with Uncle Johnny, Daddy?"
"I'm not sure, Honey. Go find your brother and tell him to come inside." Roy then ruffled her hair as he walked by.
Johnny was staring at the window, not really seeing. He flinched when he felt the strong hand on his arm. "I'm not a baby, Roy." Johnny whispered.
"I know you're not." Roy was confused.
"Then why did you call me one?" Johnny raised his eyes, but not his head, to look at Roy.
"I didn't mean you were a baby, Johnny." Roy sat next to the upset man. "Hasn't anyone ever called you something like, Babe or Sweetheart before?"
"No." Johnny shook his head. "I wasn't loved when I was little, but my father called me baby a lot. Please, Roy, don't call me baby."
"Ah, Johnny. I won't do that. Is it okay if I call you Babe sometime? Or maybe 'My Sweetheart'?" Roy pulled his lover into his arms.
"Yea, I guess." Johnny mumbled. He looked up into Roy's blue eyes and used his hand to bring their heads together.
The kiss was long and lingering. Roy pulled back with the need to breathe. "I need to fix dinner, but I promise, after dinner."
"Okay. We'll send the kids to bed early." Johnny smiled. Oh how Roy loved that smile. "I can hardly wait."
"Well, Junior, get in the kitchen and help me with dinner and we'll be able to get to it that much sooner." Roy smiled and winked at his lover.
"Good deal." Johnny said as he rubbed his hands together. "What's for dinner, anyway?"
"Food." Roy said as he pulled Johnny to his chest for a long needed hug of apology. "I'm so so sorry, Johnny. You need to tell me when I say something that upsets you. Deal?"
"Deal, Roy. I'm sorry I acted like a spoiled brat too." Johnny looked down, then up at Roy. "I promise."
Together the two lovers made dinner for them and Roy's two children who were there for the weekend.
